How to fix file or Directory Corrupted and Hard Drive Wont Open (windows 10 / 11)

  • To fix a file or directory that is corrupted and the hard drive wont open then you need to open the command prompt and run sfc /scannow and hit enter.

Run SFC scan and Chkdsk

Step 1: Click on search -> type in cmd and right click on it and run as administrator.

Step 2: Now in Command Prompt (CMD) -> type in sfc /scannow and hit enter and wait for the scan to complete and it takes some time be patient.(wait for verification to complete 100 %).

Step 3: Now, you need to Run and type chkdsk /f /c: and hit enter (in here replace the letter C: with the letter where windows 11 or windows 10 is installed on your computer.

Step 4: To confirm in which drive your windows 10 or 11 is installed -> Open This PC -> you will see the windows icon on the drive in the drive letter that means windows is installed on that drive letter.

Step 5: If you have an open c drive it will say chkdsk will run when you restart your computer next time. So go ahead and restart your computer and chkdsk will run and check for any possible errors and fix errors.
