How to Remove Or Disable Protected View in MS Word Document or Excel

Step 1: Open Microsoft Word Document or MS Excel Sheet

Step 2: On the left side panel -> click on the options menu 

Step 3: Select trust center on the left side 

Step 4: Then on the right click on  trust center settings option

Step 5: Now, select the protected view on the left side

Step 6: Now on the right side protected view options and uncheck these three options, Enable protected view  for files originating from the internet, Enable protected view for files located in potentially unsafe location , Enable protected view for outlook attachment 

Step 7: Click on the OK button.

Can’t Remove Protected View Document in MS Word or Excel

If you have unchecked all options in trust center settings and you are still receiving same protected view error then you need to disable windows defender firewall settings on your windows computer and see you can open document or not. Sometimes windows firewall will also lead to this issue and cant open or still shows protected view if windows cant trust the document..

Why MS Word Document Show Protected View?

Due to security and windows 10 or 11 can’t trust the downloaded document or excel or data present in the document or excel and it says this file is originated from an internet location and might be unsafe and when you open ms word document download from elsewhere like internet or you may have received document from other computer and open it on your computer then due to security or if file contains virus or malware in document then it show protected view notification on top of the document and you will not be able to edit that document. 

How to Enable Editing in Protected View MS word Document?

To enable editing in protected view document, you need to click on top notification bar where it says protected view and click here to enable editing on  notification bar will enable editing.
