How to Fix Ethernet Keeps Disconnecting / Dropping on MacBook

Disconnect and Reconnect Ethernet Cable

Step 1: Unplug  the ethernet cable from your macbook and also unplug it from router / modem

Step 2: Wait for 30 seconds and plug back ethernet cable back to macbook and router.

Step 3: Now, go ahead and connect it with your ethernet cable on your macbook.

Once you perform these above steps you will not see ethernet keeps disconnecting / dropping on macbook again and internet keeps disconnecting or dropping signal will be fixed successfully. If not try these below other methods.

Change Your Cable

Change your ethernet cable and connect with different ethernet cable and see if ethernet keeps disconnecting or not and try restarting your mac when you change cable.

Turn on Wifi

You can try turning on wifi when you are using ethernet and then check if ehterhet cable is working is working and ethernet cable is disconnecting or not on your macbook. 

Unplug and Plug Back Ethernet Adapter

Step 1: First, you need to unplug ethernet adaptor from your Mac and ethernet cable.

Step 2: Then plug it back with your Mac and cable and check the ethernet connection.

Disable Wake for Network Access

Step 1: Go to the apple menu -> Select System Preferences 

Step 2: Now, Click on Energy Saver

Step 3: Select Power Adapter tab.

Step 4: Here, you need to unselect the check box next to wake for network access(wifi/Ethernet).

Restart Network Driver Using Terminal

Step 1: Open terminal on your Mac

Step 2: Now, execute these command -> sudo of config en0 down and hit enter.

Step 3:Enter admin password and hit enter and now your ethernet will be turned off on your Mac.

Step 4: Now, once close and open terminal again and type the following command -> sudo of config en0 up and hit enter.

Step 5: Now, ethernet will be turned on.

Once you turn off and turn on ethernet on your Mac using terminal you will not be facing any issue of ethernet keeps disconnecting issue on your macbook.

Restart your Macbook in Safe Mode

If you are using mac with intel based chip

Step 1: Shutdown your mac via apple menu -> shutdown.

Step 2: Wait for few minutes and press power button/ touch id.

Step 3: After pressing power button / touch id, immediately you need to hold down the shift key until you see apple login window. 

Step 4: Don’t let go shift key when you see apple logo -> you need to press and hold shift key till apple login window screen appears on your macbook.

Step 5: Enter your login details and if your mac is encrypted with filevault you need to enter login credentials twice.

Step 6: Now you can use your macbook without any ethernet disconnection problem.

If you are using macbook with Silicon

Step 1: Apple menu -> click on shutdown 

Step 2: Now, wait for few minutes and hold the power button / touch id until you see startup options on your macbook screen.

Step 3: Now, you will see available startup options -> now, select your startup disk (macintosh HD).

Step 4: After that hold down shift key and click continue while holding shift key.

Step 5: Click on continue with safe mode while holding shift key

Step 6: Now, release the shift key and wait until you see apple login windows screen on your mac.

Now, you can use your macbook without any ethernet disconnecting problem.
