Different types of printer

There are 4 types of printers mainly used and few of them are characterised or sub divided from these 4 main type printers.

Daisy wheel printer

Dot matrix Printer

Inkjet printer

Laser Printer

Daisy wheel printer:

Daisy wheel printer produces letter-quality type printouts. A daisy wheel printer works on the same principle as of type writer. The daisy wheel is a dark mode of plastic or metal on which characters stand out in relief along the outer edge. To print a character, the printer rotates the disk until the desired letter is facing the paper. Then a hammer strikes the disk, forcing the character to hit an ink ribbon, leaving an impression of the character on the paper. You can change the daisy wheel to print different fonts.

Daisy wheel printers cannot print graphics and in general they are noisy and slow, printing from 10 about 75 characters per second. As the price of laser and ink-jet printers has declined and the quality of dot-matrix printers have improved, daisy wheel printers have become obsolete.

Dot Matrix Printer

Such type of printer works on same principle as daisy wheel does. But instead of hammer, dot matrix printer makes use of pins. The pins strike an ink ribbon, as each pin hit the ink ribbon, a dot appears on the paper and combinations of dots form characters and illustration.

A dot matrix printer can print  to 18 pages in one minute. The role of dot-matrix printer is now restricted up to printing invoices and bills.

Inkjet printers

Inkjet printers are type of printers which sprays ink at a sheet of paper. Inkjet printers produce high-quality text and graphics. An inkjet printer can print 4 to 6 pages in one minute. Due to its low prie and affordability, the inkjet printer is popular in homes and specially among kids and small offices.

Laser Printer

Such type of printer uses fine powder ink, called as toner. Laser print uses the same technology as photocopy machines. Laser printers produce very high quality text and graphics. The laster printer is quite popular in corporate wirld and printing houses. Some other printers, which are gaining in popularity are LED ( Light Emitting Diode) printer and the multi-functional printer.

LED printers are similar to laser printers. The multi-functional printers aas the name suggests can perform more than one task and it can also work as fax machine, a photocopier and a scanner.
