Electric Charge and Field: Types and Properties

What is electric Charge?

The shock you get from door knock and with chair and the trick you get with balloon to make your hair stick up and the lightening strike they are all governed by same principles which is static electricity and charges usually refer to electric charge other particles also carry charge in multiples of the electric charge for example positron.

The influence of gravity on a mass m by another mass M can be notion of as m absorbed in a gravitational field due to M.

Electric Charge is defined as an electrical property of matter that exists because of an access or a deficiency of electrons.

Formula of Electric Charge:

Q = I x T and where Q is the total charge and I is the amount of current and T is the time.

It is very important to understand what is Electric charge when learning electricity and magnetism its mandatory and it will be easy to understand and learn more about electric charge and field and it’s a key to learn electric charge and field with electrostatics.

Electric charge is a word which is derived from Greek word electron which means amber which is the existence of charges are known when charged particles were produced by rubbing due to friction of suitable materials, these facts are demonstrated by simple experiments which are :

A – Suspend a glass rod rub with silk and bring another glass rod rubbed with silk nearer to the suspended rod and it is observed that the suspended rod will swing away and showing repulsion.

B –Similarly, suspended a plastic rod rubbed with fur and bring another plastic rod rubbed with fur closer to it, then we observe the rods repel.

C- Again, if we suspend a glass rod with silk and bring a plastic rod rub with fur nearer to the glass rod, we observe that the rods attract.

From the above 3 we can see that the glass rod rub with silk acquire something different from that of plastic rub and fur and that something is called Charge. Unlike charge attract, like charge repel.

By principle the charge on the glass rod when rub with silk is positive and the charge on the plastic rod when rub with fur is negative. It is due to mechanical friction that the electrons are torn from the atoms.

Examples of Electric Charge :

  • We can consider this as the examples of Electric charge examples:
  • Rubbing a rubber rod with wool transfers negative charge to rod
  • In dry weather if you walk on a red carpet we can produce a sparkle.
  • Two plasters putting them together.

This is the kind of second explanation for example – this kind of situation is said to be the electric charged particles providing the second electrons and as the positrons will not be generated for an instance this situation is said to be the rainbow balloon or a kind of hair producing the stems.

Electric Charge Formula :

Flow of electric charge has the units of Columbus (C) and time measured in seconds and I is the charge.

Formula of electric charge is Q = I x T.

Static Electricity :

It occurs when an object obtains a net amount of positive or negative electric charge and creating an imbalance that wants to be returned to equilibrium.

Properties of Electric Charge :

There are basic properties of electric charges positive and negative usually carried by protons and electrons respectively. The additive of charges, charge is conserved and Quantization of charge. Opposite charges attract, like charges repel.
