Find My phone should be turned on all time on your iPhone when you set up your iPhone initially.

Step 1: Open find my app on your iPhone

Step 2: On Bottom navigation you need to tap on Devices.

Step 3: Now, locate your airpods from the list here and tap on it.

Step 4: Tap on Nearby option -> even if your airpods are not having battery it will search for your airpods where they are last powered off location.

Step 5: If you don’t see them and you find my app has detected and found lost airpods on iPhone it will give you the option to play sound on your airpods from your iPhone as well.

Step 6: Tap on Play Sound and it will play sound on your lost Airpods.

Play Sound on Lost Airpods from iPhone

Step 1: Open find my app 

Step 2: Tap on devices

Step 3: Now, locate your airpods

Step 4: Tap on Play sound option 

Step 5: Confirm volume sound and Select left or right airpods.

Turn on Find My iPhone

Step 1: Unlock your iPhone and Open Settings

Step 2: Tap on your Name (profile icon).

Step 3: Tap on Find My option and turn on find my iPhone option.
