Indexed not submitted in sitemap Status in Google Search Console:

URls Indexed but not submitted in sitemap.xml file in Google Search Console:

In Google search console under index coverage of your website you may see with the status of Valid and the type of index as indexed not submitted in sitemap with successful validation of your website.

When you see status of indexed not submitted in sitemap it means your WebPages are crawled successfully and also indexed successfully but your WebPages are not discovered by Google bot from your website sitemap file.

Why status is indexed not submitted in Sitemaps?

This may be due to number of reasons and sometimes, this may happen due to overload of your website URLs present in sitemap.xml file as well. When Google bot tried to crawl and fetch your website URL pages and server got overloaded and bots got busy in crawling the sitemap files and they are indexed via the direct website URLs.

Indexed not submitted in sitemap may happen due to the URLs not present in sitemap.xml . If this is the case then update your website sitemap.xml file daily and let the Google bot crawl your website with sitemap.xml file only.

Google Bot discovers the webpage by sitemap.xml file only and crawls the website and indexes WebPages of your website.

What To do if Indexed not Submitted in Sitemap Status?

Well the only thing you have to do is just update your website sitemap.xml file daily and as soon as the URL is published on your website make sure your website url is updated in sitemap file and let the Google bot crawl from sitemap file only and this where you provide information about your pages.

Google bot discovers the WebPages only from sitemap file and crawls the webpage and indexes, this is the only way google bot understands about the urls of your webpage and submits all important URLs using sitemap file.

Google Not Indexing URls from Sitemap.xml Files?

Google search console says Urls indexed but not submitted in sitemap but urls are submitted in sitemap file aswell. Yes Google lets you know how they discovered your website urls first. Even though you list your website urls in sitemap files, some time google bot discovers urls from website when google bot crawls first instead of finding those urls from sitemap.xml file.

In this case when google bot says indexed but not submitted in sitemap follow the steps:

  • Refresh your sitemap file.
  • Submit your sitemap file when ever you publish new article.
  • List all your urls in sitemap file

By following above things it makes google bot to discover urls from sitemap file.

Indexed But Not submitted in Sitemap file: Does this Matter

No, Frankly ! because you are listing website urls in sitemap.xml file to get urls indexed. So when ever google bot visits your website it crawls sitemap and then discovers those urls and indexes. Now what google bot says is urls are indexed but not submitted in sitemap file. Google bot has successfully discovered those urls without reaching sitemap file, which is google bot is now flexible in discovering urls of your website easily without checking sitemap file and indexing as well. So this is a good thing in my point of view.

Indexed but not submitted in Sitemap is an Error?

No this is not an error, if you see status as indexed coverage as indexed but not submitted in sitemaps and Google new search console tell you more information of your website in depth compared to old search console and GSC also says these are the valid URLs so there is nothing to worry about until and unless you see valid status.
