What Are Asteroids and What Asteroid Contains: Facts and Information, Asteroid Belt, Size

What is an Asteroid?

Asteroids is a piece of rocky leftover of planet formation which is a rocky body orbiting the sun and asteroids will be in irregular in shape and different in their size range. Huge no of these rocks will be orbiting and each of them will be ranging extremely big in size in size of miles and they are found between orbits of Mars and Jupiter and few of them have more peculiar orbit.

What Are Asteroids

Asteroids are Also Called as Minor Planets

Asteroid is also called as Minor planets and particularly those of the inner solar system and large ones are called planetoids. Asteroids have rocky world which will revolve around the sun and few of them are too small to call them as planets.

In the beginning there was darkness and then there was a bang giving birth to an endless expanding existence of time, space and matter.

Every day new discoveries are unlocking the unexplained, mind-blowing and deadly secrets of a universe.

They have already wiped out dinosaurs and many other species which is the known fact to everyone and its going to hit earth again there would be a disaster far beyond biblical proportions and scientists are tracking asteroids for decades which are passing close to earth.

What is an Asteroid Belt?

Asteroid belt is a place in the solar system located roughly between the orbits of the planets of mars and Jupiter. Asteroid belt contains millions of asteroids orbiting around and most of the asteroids are found in our solar system orbiting sun.

The asteroid belt is formed from the primordial solar nebula as a group of planetesimals.

What do Asteroid Have and Contain?

Asteroid contain solid rock they are formed by orbiting planets and asteroids are made of rock, metals and other elements and few of asteroids contains water as astronomers discovered with the type of S-type Asteroid contains water.

What is Asteroid Size?

There is no particular size of an asteroid there are plenty of rocky substances formed in space as asteroids and they are in vast number each of them and the ranging in size from few meters to Hundreds of kilometers and miles across.

How Many Asteroids are There:

There are plenty of asteroids and still discovered by astronomers and scientists all the time.

There are millions in number of asteroids and if we count it with their size larger than 100 meters orbiting with in the solar system there are over 200 millions and a lot more.

Asteroids Hitting Earth

Asteroid last hit earth over 66 million years ago at the age of dinosaurs.

How are Meteoroids Different from Asteroids

Asteroids are the rocky body in space formed which will be in orbit around the sun and where as meteoroids are much smaller rock or practices in orbit around the sun.

If a meteoroid enters the earth atmosphere it vaporizes and it becomes meteor which is often called as shooting star.

Asteroid Orbit

Most of the asteroid orbit in a belt between mars and Jupiter.

Trojan asteroids are in Jupiterʼs orbit.

Orbits of near-Earth asteroids cross Earthʼs orbit

Asteroids facts and Information

Asteroids are rocky leftovers of planet formation.

Asteroids are Largest is Ceres, diameter ~1,000 km

Asteroids with 150,000 in catalogs, and probably over a million with diameter >1 km.

Small asteroids are more common than large asteroids.

All the asteroids in the solar system wouldn’t add up to even a small terrestrial planet.
